Mushroom picking

Into the forest on a scented treasure hunt

As summer winds down, a very special season begins for gourmets: the mushroom season. Mushroom picking combines the pleasure of hiking with an exciting and tasty treasure hunt. The fragrant reward consists of porcini (Yellow boletus), chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius) or honey mushrooms (Armillaria).

It goes without saying that the passionate mushroom hunter is also a nature lover and pays close attention to what and how he collects.

Please note: Mushroom picking is regulated in South Tyrol.

Important advice on mushroom picking

According to the provincial act dated 19 June 1991, no. 18, and subsequent amendments, mushroom picking is permitted in South Tyrol under the following conditions

  • Mushrooms may only be collected within the municipality for which the collection fee has been paid or within the municipality of residence;
  • Only on even days from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
  • 1 kg per day and per person (over 14 years)
  • It is important to know how to handle the mushrooms:
    • they should not be damaged  attheir growing point,,
    • they should be transported in rigid, open and well-ventilated containers.

Failure to comply with the above rules will result in administrative penalties and confiscation of the collected mushrooms
