Alta Badia, arts and crafts

The Craftsmen of our valley, when necessity turns into virtue

In Alta Badia and the Dolomites, the origins of handicrafts date back to a time when the valley's first inhabitants evolved from nomadic hunters into farmers and settled down in the vale. The peasants lived in remote areas with their families and had to provide their own supplies: food but also yarn, fabrics, tools and the bare necessities for survival. That is why, especially in winter when there was no work in the fields, many men travelled to nearby regions where they worked and earned a livelihood for their families. Being smart and creative, they quickly became very skilled and popular craftsmen.

Felix's vision

Our bond with tradition is the future. This is Felix’s vision, which lays the foundation for his work.

In the locality of Pederoa, not far below La Val, there’s a long-standing fabric manufacturer for home textiles. Today it’s Felix who runs the tradition-steeped business - and always with a smile on his face.

Roda da firé

This is how looms are called in Ladin. Weavers who once used to move from farm to farm, employed them to process wool and linen which the farmers produced themselves.
