An open-air exhibition
SMACH's ritual occurs every two years at the foot of Val Badia's Dolomite peaks
SMACH is the international biennale of public art, first held in 2012 and taking place between Alta Badia and San Vigilio di Marebbe. For each edition, a panel of professionals selects ten works of art by means of a competition that is open to artists from all over the world. Every edition features a well-defined theme, with more than three hundred artists from thirty-eight different countries participating in the latest call for entries. During the months of July and August, the selected artworks are exhibited by means of open-air installations, that is, in the unique natural and cultural setting of the Dolomites.
“Val dl’Ert”, park of contemporary art in Val Badia
“Val dl'Ert”, which means Valley of Art in Ladin, is a permanently installed park of artworks in the locality of San Martino in Badia, hosting art objects that have been acquired during the SMACH competition. Nestled in an unspoilt and secluded alpine forest, the pieces created by international artists form an ongoing dialogue with the surrounding nature, designed to be experienced and contemplated.
SMACH, a kiss of art that pops up every two years
A biennale launched in 2012 upon the initiative of three genuine advocates of contemporary art: a graphic designer, a museum director and a photo artist. Over the years, SMACH's success in terms of participation and quality has grown more and more to the point of turning into one of the most important events in the Ladin cultural scene and beyond.
“Val dl’Ert”, art as shared heritage
Down in a quiet side valley at just a few minutes from the locality of San Martino in Badia, there is a path running through the forest and leading to a small alpine pasture. Surrounded by silence and the scents of nature, you will discover works by artists from all over the world scattered here and there. Surprising, astonishing and moving along with the beholder. It is pure beauty.
