Gní de munt - The alpine pasture cattle drive

The eve of Saint Michael's Day (celebrated on 29 September) is the day when traditionally the animals return from the mountain pastures. It is a solemn moment for the whole village, and to emphasise this, the crack of whips can be heard in the distance.

The groups made up of herds and shepherds are preceded by the most beautiful cow, festively decorated with a magnificent garland of ribbons, flowers, mirrors and religious symbols.

The most beautiful cowbells are also put on display. The size of the cowbell used to be an indication of the farmer's wealth.
